Communities to have input on Map Ta Phut pollution progress

The Joint Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking (JCCIB) yesterday met the representatives of 25 communities around Map Ta Phut to gather information on the results of the pollution-reduction plan that has been in place over the past two years. The results will be sent to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva next week and disclosed to the public. The pollution-reduction model scheme was initiated under the Surayud Chulanont government. At that time, local villagers petitioned that they had fallen victim to cancer because of the pollution emitted by petrochemical plants in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong.
