Kobe Steel has admitted that in 2007 it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Vietnamese government to conduct a pre-feasibility study into building a 500,000 tonnes/year ironmaking plant in the country. The results of that study, completed last month, were so positive that the Japanese steel maker and its trader-partner Sojitz have now embarked on a full feasibility study to consider details of the project.
