The biggest single advancement in the reporting of catch effort data has been quietly released to the fishing industry with the introduction of FishServe's electronic catch effort reporting software "Cedric" in December 2010. Cedric, which stands forCatch Effort Data Return Information Capture, is the result of two years of dedicated design and development effort by FishServe's technical team. Cedric will allow fishers to electronically record all catch effort data at the time of fishing. It has been designed co-operatively between FishServe and the Ministry of Fisheries and is intended to replace the need to complete traditional paper-based catch effort forms.
