CRAB has benefited from a 'halo' association in terms of consumer lifestyle and healthy eating aspirations in the UK, according to Allen Townsend, group sales and marketing director of the Seafood Company. 'From having a somewhat old fashioned image,English crab is now quite a "trendy" product, thanks in large part to interest from food writers and TV chefs as well as contemporary-style restaurants and gastropubs [bar restaurants],' he comments. 'This had led the Seafood Company to develop a variety of new combination dishes such as crab with prawns and to develop value-added recipes like crab tarts and in-shell hot baked starters.'
