Liebherr Construction Equipment Co. has introduced the L580, which it calls the first wheel loader to meet Tier 4i emission standards. In addition to offering fuel injection and a diesel particulate filter, the unit features the new Liebherr power efficiency system, which adjusts the machine's performance profile to ensure maximum operating efficiency, saving up to an additional 8 percent of fuel, the company says. The L580's hydrostatic drive ensures fuel efficiency, minimal tire and brake wear, and traction control, Liebherr says. A new mounting system for the cab significantly reduces vibration and noise, and the operator's seat and the control console are integrated so they adjust and move together, the firm says. Liebherr also redesigned the loader's access panels to swing upward to ease maintenance and cleaning. The 54,190-pound loader delivers 288 hp of engine output and has a tipping load capacity of 40,790 pounds based on its 6.5-cubic-yard bucket.
