A FULL FALL MEETING

As usual, ISRI's board of directors and committee meetings-held in October in Washington, D.C.-were busy and stimulating, with debates ranging from the size of ISRI's budget to the scrap industry's role in controlling the theft of copper scrap in Iraq. Each meeting addressed issues of importance to scrap recyclers. The government affairs committee alone, for instance, examined Design for Recycling~R, efforts to affirm that scrap is not waste on the state and local levels, ISRI PAC, shipbreaking along the James River in Virginia, a possible compromise with the auto industry on the mercury-switch issue, ISRI's Grass Roots Implementation Program, Basel and OECD initiatives, SREA reasonable care assistance for members, and a proposal that ISRI join the National Association of Manufacturers' Coalition for the Future of Manufacturing.
