THAI SURCHARGE ON STEEL IMPORTS IS IMMINENT

The Thai government plants to impose a surcharge on steel imports before the end of this month. The levy will begin with hot rolled sheet and coil but will also cover most other products, according to the Iron & Steel Institute of Thailand (Isit).The institute's director Wikrom Vajragupta said that the finance, industry and commerce ministries, together with Thailand's board of Investment, made the decision based on a recent petition from steel producers.
