CHINA'S FOUR STEEL MILLS TO MERGE IN LIAONING

Chinas steel industry is consolidating to become more competitive.Xia Deren, vice governer of Liaoning, revealed recently that the province is planning to merge four large local steel companies into a single entity, according to the Oct. 3 Hong Kong Wen Wei Po Daily. Xia did not say what the name of the entity would be, but noted that two of the merging firms were the Anshan Steel Group and Benxi Iron & Steel Co. The merger would take some time to complete, the vice governor said, because the four mills only just started negotiating what the post-merger management structure would look like.
