South Africa has largely put the uncertainty of quota allocations behind it. For most of this year, seafood companies have been focused on the final phase in the allocation of long-term, eight- to 15-year quotas. These allocations should be complete by year-end, and most fishing companies are eager to put the process behind them and focus on more pressing matters, most importantly a decline in catch rates in the major fisheries which have led to a shortage of raw material.
