Global seafood consumption has increased from 9.9 kilos in the 1960s to more than 16.7 kilos -and it's still rising.Seafood plays a critical role in global food security and nutritional needs of people in industrialized and developing countries. Global seafood consumption has been increasing steadily since the 1960s. Growing world seafood exports the last few years reflect the increase in consumption of seafood, not only in the European Union and the United States but in other regions of the world, including Asia.
