In November 1966 and January 1967, Scrap Age promised readers a "new look" that introduced several new columns--such as "Profit Management" by Eric Teltscher and "Scientific Management" by William Wachs--that focused on key management issues for the scrap industry. Today, these columns offer an interesting look back at a different business world than the one we know--a world in which a "management man" might use "effective manualization" (in plain English, a company manual, apparently intended only for the management team rather than all employees) to ensure "strict and continued adherence to certain principles and practices which a manual can assure better than any other device yet discovered," noted Wachs in June 1968.
