Ringing up another bumper squid season

New Zealand's squid fishery is on a roll, enjoying its second bumper season in a row, and is on track to nearly match last year's record earnings of 171.7 million dollar. This makes squid New Zealand's second most valuable seafood species, "just a whisker" behind hoki at 174 million dollar, says Richard Cade, chief executive of the former New Zealand Squid Fishery Management Company. Squid has gone up three places from 2004, when it was ranked the fifth most valuable species.
