The Indian government's Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is expected to issue a notification this week imposing stricter regulations governing steel scrap imports into India, aimed at preventing the arrival of radioactive material, Steel Business Briefing learns. The DGFT had issued the first customs regulation of this kind in 2004, obliging importers to furnish a pre- shipment inspection certificate stating that the scrap is free of radioactive and explosive material. Shredded scrap is exempt.
