摘要

There's no telling where a group discussion might lead. One minute you're talking about materials theft; the next you're hearing about the "100th-monkey effect." That's precisely what happened at the New Southern Chapter meeting, held in Naples, Fla., in mid-November. The chapter members were engaged in a discussion about the theft issue when one recycler turned the conversation in a philosophical direction. "You can't solve a problem at the same level of consciousness on which the problem was created," he said, which I thought was rather profound. Then he proceeded to ask those involved in the conversation if they'd heard of the lOOth-monkey effect. Few had, so he offered a brief description of the phenomenon, which I later confirmed with additional research.
