Aquaculture's contribution to India's shrimp exports is substantial. While shrimp exports yielded Rs42.35 billion (960 million dollar) in value terms during fiscal 2005-06, as much as 89.6% of it was contributed by aquaculture. In terms of volume, the country exported 123,000 tonnes of shrimp, of which 65.7% came from aquaculture sources.
