Skipjack prices double since 2006

Thailand's Agriculture Minister Theera Wong-samut told delegates at the recent 12th INFOFISH World Tuna Trade Conference and Exhibition that tuna prices have soared in recent years while tighter international restrictions and stricter conservation measures have limited global catches. As a result, Thailand, the world's largest tuna exporter, saw its exports drop in 2011. INFOFISH confirmed the cost and freight (CFR) price of skipjack raw material in Bangkok doubled from $918 (EUR 731) per metric ton in 2006 to around $1,800-2,025 (EUR 1,434-1,614) last year.
