A lifetime trawling and no regrets. For Gary Courtney it's most definitely a case of 'once a trawler man, always a trawler man,' and when he finally steps ashore it won't be easy. Any work he does end up doing ashore will most certainly be connected with trawling but, as he well knows, it just won't be the same and it will take a power of adjustment. One of New Zealand's longest serving and better known trawler men, and somewhat of a character to boot (although he wouldn't subscribe to that), Gary was born on 22 May 1942 at Penzance in Cornwall where he grew up and went to school.
