I'm writing this column after just returning from the Gulf Coast Chapter's summer meeting. The meeting reinforced to me the importance of one of ISRI's priority goals-building and strengthening our relationships with related organizations in ways that benefit ISRI members and strengthen ISRI itself. At its meeting, the Gulf Coast Chapter sponsored a series of "dialogue" programs modeled after ISRI's successful consumer/processor dialogue seminar held last year in coordination with the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA). Working again with SMA, the chapter offered three dialogue programs - on ferrous, nonferrous, and international issues. Each program included panelists from different segments of the industry. The result was some lively and interesting discussion among the panelists and attendees. I commend the Gulf Coast Chapter in general - and Manny Bodner of Bodner Metal & Iron Corp. (Houston) in particular-for the wonderful effort that created this great program.
