Contrasting approaches to forest fire risk in New Zealand and Great Britain.

摘要

This paper explores what aspects of New Zealand fire risk management experience and infrastructure could be imported to support British needs. The paper describes fire management in New Zealand and forest fires in Great Britain. Further, the paper discusses the importance of managing fire risk in British forestry. It is established that New Zealand and Great Britain have similar climate, land use and plantation silviculture, but with wide difference in the ways that the countries approach wildfires, wildfire risk and its management, thus, it is suggested that British land managers have much to learn from wild and forest fire management experience in New Zealand.
