Commonwealth Forestry Conference focusses on climate change

The 18th Commonwealth Forestry Conference will be held between 28 June and 2 July 2010 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Its theme is Restoring the Commonwealth's Forests: Tackling Climate Change. "The self-destructive mindset that canattach a greater value to a dead forest than a live one has to be defeated if efforts to combat climate change are to succeed" said Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth when accepting an invitation to speak at the conference. "Healthyforests act as a huge carbon sink. Their removal and destruction and degradation - usually for conversion to other land uses - is the second-biggest cause of... greenhouse gas emissions."
