Ancient woods in Northern Ireland

Ancient woods are many times scarcer in Northern Ireland than in the rest of the UK, yet are still being lost at an alarming rate, according to the results of a four-year project carried out by the Woodland Trust. The Woodland Trust has recently launched the findings of Back on the Map; a project to research and record for the first time ancient and long-established woodland in Northern Ireland. It is funded by the Environment and Heritage Service and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
