In 1992, over 70 people from all corners of the northern world came together just above the Arctic Circle in Jokkmokk, Sweden, to discuss the boreal/taiga forests and hence founded the Taiga Rescue Network (TRN). Since then TRN remains the only international network of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), indigenous peoples and individuals working to protect the world's boreal forests Organisations become participants by agreeing to the following mission and goals. TRN remains the only network operating directly with grassroots groups across the boreal region to address environmental and social issues. Over 200 organisations, primarily in northern countries (Canada, Russia, US -Alaska, Scandinavia and Scotland) and main consumer countries (Germany, UK, the Netherlands, US, Japan) have signed our memorandum. In addition there are hundreds of individuals who also support the network's goals.
