A Short History of the Royal Scottish Forestry Society

Notes on the history of the Royal Scottish Forestry Society for the Society's 150th Anniversary - as it has grown as an organism, sustaining and sustained by forests and their environment. Taking the analogy of a forest as its site, notes from the Society's journals have been selected to illustrate how its fortunes have fared over 150 years. Throughout the period, its leaders have shown foresight and determination in promoting forests and woodlands, not just in Scotland, but more widely in the UK. The name of the Society changed from the initial Scottish Arbor icultural Society to its present name in several stages.
