Genetic Conservation and Management of British Native Trees

Organised by the British Ecological Society -- Forest Ecology and Ecological Genetics Groups, this two-day British Ecological Society conference, based at the SNH Battleby Conference Centre near Perth, was also advertised as part of the RSFS Silvicultural Group Programme for 2002-2003. In recent years increasing emphasis has been placed on active conservation of the genetic component of forest biodiversity, following the UK government's commitments under the Rio and Helsinki agreements. This has been brought into focus by the widespread planting of native tree species throughout the UK under the terms of the FC WGS scheme and as part of landscaping and land reclamation projects.
