In their letter entitled "The hybrid algorithm (Hbmr) to fight against blood doping in sports," the authors emphasize the value of a novel indirect marker for the detection of blood doping. The "hybrid algorithm" comprises both hemoglobin mass and Reti-culocyte percentage and bears as a main advantage a relative independence from plasma volume shifts, which affect all concentration based markers of blood doping, such as hemoglobin concentration or hematocrit.
