摘要

For U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, knowing the lay of the land means more than being familiar with roads, markets and back alleys -- it also means understanding the people who inhabit their areas of operations. The Human Terrain Team, or HTT, is an Army initiative that combines soldiers with scientists to offer an unprecedented level of anthropological expertise to U.S. commanders who clamor for knowledge of the socio-cultural nature of their battlefields, program managers said.
