Rapid fecal calprotectin correlates with clinical and endoscopic severity of inflammatory bowel diseases

To the Editor: Fecal calprotectin (FC), assessed as enzyme-linked immunosorbent analysis (ELISA) technique, has been shown to be a sensitive marker of activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) [1]. A rapid test assessing FC has been recently developed [2], accounting a diagnostic accuracy for active IBD similar to that of standard ELISA technique [3]. Despite this, no studies assessing a correlation between rapid FC test and clinical scores of IBD severity are currently available.
