Asian met coke market softens as demand dissipates

Seaborne metallurgical coke continued to inch lower Monday as Indian participants remained reluctant to purchase and supply was seen exceeding demand. Platts assessed 62% CSR (coke strength after reaction) and 12.5% ash met coke $2/mt lower at $303/mt CFR India. Indian buyers continued to adopt a wait-and-see attitude towards coke procurement, a coke trader said, in light of the perceived high likelihood of a removal of export duty for Chinese exports at the end of 2012.
