There was no immediate sign Thursday that spot metallurgical coal prices in Asia had risen beyond levels reached Wednesday, leading to generally unmoved price assessments on the day. The Platts premium low-vol assessment was unchanged at $153.50/mt FOB Australia, while second-tier HCC was steady at $135/mt FOB. Indicative bids and offers for top-tier material loading in 7-45 days remained mostly in the $165-170/mt CFR China range, or $150.50-155.50/mt FOB Queensland when deducting spot Panamax freight rates, but no new deals were reported Thursday.
