Kumba Q3 iron ore output up 14% on Kolomela ramp-up

Anglo American subsidiary Kumba Iron Ore said Thursday that output in the third quarter rose 14% year on year to a record 12.5 million mt as production at its Kolomela mine ramped up faster than expected. Kumba said the Kolomela mine in South Africa is expected to produce at least 7 million mt of iron ore in in 2012. However, production at the Sishen mine was down 7% at 9.8 million mt, “as mining feedstock and quality constraints continued to impact plant throughput.”
