Seaborne manganese ore bound for Asia gained ground Thursday, as mills stepped up purchasing of manganese alloys, buoyed by stronger margins that in turn are lending support to ore prices. Platts assessed 44% Mn ore at $4.95/ dry mt unit CIF Tianjin Thursday, up two cents from Wednesday. Two alloy producer sources reported stronger demand for manganese ore on the back of higher silicomanganese prices.
