Spot metallurgical coal prices in Asia were reasonably steady Monday, amid continued strong spot liquidity, particularly into China. Premium low-vol hard coking coals and pulverized coal injection material performed better than second-tier coals. Platts assessed premium low-vol hard coking coal 50 cents higher than last Friday, at $148.50/mt FOB Australia. Reflecting a different specification, HCC Peak Downs region was assessed just $0.25/mt higher at $148.25/mt and second-tier HCC drifted $1.50/mt lower to $127/mt FOB Australia, normalized to HCC 64 mid-vol specifications.
