First half US scrap exportsfall to nine-year low

US ferrous scrap exportsfell to their lowest level in nine years duringthe first half of 2015 and structuralchanges in the market have many questioningwhether the US will ever return torecord levels seen earlier this decade.The US exported 6.89 million mt of ferrousscrap through June, the least sinceH1 2006, according to US Department ofCommerce and US International TradeCommission data. The current annualizedrate of 13.8 million mt this year would bedown from 15.31 million mt last year, a farcry from record exports of more than 24million mt in 2011 — and on pace toreach the lowest level since 2005.
