Two leading German steelmakers have warned of the risk that increasing regulation poses to the future of the European steel industry. Heinz J?rg Fuhrmann, CEO of Salzgitter, warned that additional energy or environmental costs, such as emission certificates, risked undermining the competitive position of the European steel industry. The challenges occur both at a national and at a Europe-wide level, he added.
