MPX confirms 672 million mt of PCI in Colombia

Brazilian power company MPX said in a statement late Monday that its San Juan underground mine in the northern department of La Guajira in Colombia contains reserves of 672 million mt of high-quality pulverized coal injection material. The company said mining studies indicate that the mine contains more than 92% of PCI-grade coal, which should have an average production rate of around 25 million mt/ year for 20 years, with the potential of 28 million mt/year in peak production rates.
