China to import 730 mil mt of iron ore for 2012: MIIT

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) expects the country's iron ore imports to reach 730 million mt in 2012, a 6.4% increase on 2011, with higher steel output expected in Asia's biggest economy this year. The forecast 6.4% year-on-year increase from last year's total of 686.1 million mt would mark a slowdown from the 10.8% annual growth rate witnessed in 2011 from 2010's 619 million mt.
