China to reassign 1.8 million coal, steel workers

China has singled out coal andsteel as the first sectors to go under the knifein its supply-side structural reforms, andestimates a total of 1.8 million workers to beaffected, a top official said Monday.About 1.3 million workers in coal and500,000 in steel will be "reassigned," YinWeimin, the minister for human resources andsocial security, said in a news briefing. In thesame speech, Yin spoke of the matter usingthe phrase "to reassign laid-off workers."
