Trader Noble Group metals unit Q2 profit drops 33%

Diversified Hong Kong-based trader Noble Group said Monday that raw material prices pushed operating income at its metals and ores business down 33% in the second quarter, to 29.9 million dollars from 44.2 million dollars in April-June 2011. Sales rose 28% to 3.6 billion dollars from 2.8 billion dollars a year ago but tonnages handled fell 16% to 10.7 million mt, the Singapore-listed company said in a statement.
