Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of 8 weeks of intense endurance training on cardiac expression of β1- et β2-adrenoceptors in diabetic and control rats. Facts: β1-adrenoceptor expression of sedentary diabetic rats is significantly decreased (p<0.05) while β2-adrenoceptor expression is not modified. Endurance training during diabetes has no effect on β1-adrenoceptor expression but displays a significant decrease in β2-adrenoceptor expression (p<0.01). Conclusion: Eight weeks of intense endurance training during diabetes induce a β2-adrenoceptor expression decrease, which may constitute a protection mechanism of diabetic heart against a catecholaminergic overstimulation.
