Atlantic met coal markets Friday saw a decline in Australian premium low-vol FOB pricing to $107.50/mt, forcing participants to acknowledge a new zone of weakness as China’s slowdown pushes more coals to other destinations. The Platts US low-vol hard coking coal assessment, based on good quality CAPP low-vol specified on 58% CSR and 1.5% MMR at 19% VM, dropped 50 cents to $109/mt FOB US East Coast. Platts US high-vol A assessment fell 25 cents to $110.25/mt, while Platts assessed US high-vol B, based on 34% VM coal with 25,000 ddpm, down 25 cents at $104.50/mt FOB USEC.
