Chinese interest buoys spot premium coking coal

Spot prices for premium hard coking coal in Asia edged upward Monday because of Chinese buying interest and tight supply. Platts SBB assessed premium low-vol hard coking coal 1 dollars higher from Friday at 226 dollars/mt FOB Australia, while all other metallurgical coals were unchanged. A large state-owned Chinese steelmaker said it would consider paying 240 dollars/mt CFR for a cargo of BHP Billiton-Mitsubishi Alliance's Peak Downs or Saraji, or Anglo American's German Creek.
