Egypt's Ezzsteel seeks lower steel production costs on new DRI plant

Egypt’s largest steel group, Ezzsteel,said Thursday it remained hopeful of loweringfeedstock costs after starting up a new DRIplant last year, adding to demand for pellets,provided it can secure natural gas.The EAF-based producer suffered from gasshortages during 2015. This eroded margins, asit was forced to buy more ferrous scrap ratherthan run DRI units at subsidiary EZDK at higherutilization, the company said in a full-yearresults statement.
