Prices for merchant bar in northwestern Europe have hardly budged in September, from the flat level they had kept throughout the summer months, at around ?600/tonne ($810/t) delivered. Italian mills asked for a ?20/t price increase last Monday, a German distributor source tells SBB. Other market observers confirm the price hike, but doubt the increase will be accepted.
