Fracture of the humerus in arm wrestler

Purpose. - To discuss through our observation and a review of the literature the mechanics of fracture of the humeral diaphysis during an "arm wrestling" game, the differential diagnoses that should be discussed face to fracture mechanism and the therapeutic modalities of this type of fracture. Synthesis of facts. - We report the observation of a 24 year old patient who represented a fracture of the right humeral diaphysis during an "arm wrestling" game. The anamnesis and the radiological and laboratory tests failed to find predisposing factor (pathological fracture or stress fracture). A non-operative treatment (brace fracture) was undertaken with good healing and good functional outcome at the last follow-up (1 year). Conclusion. - Fracture of the humeral shaft in "arm wrestling" is a "common" fracture for its clinical aspect, its diagnosis and its treatment secondary to an "unusual" fracture mechanism opposing torsion constraints.
