Jiuquan Iron & Steel Group (Jiugang), the largest steel mill in northern China’s Gansu province, has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Ningxia Haofeng Weiye to set up a joint venture in western China’s Ningxia Hui autonomous region, where the latter company is based. The head of Ningxia Haofeng Weiye already operates an integrated steelworks, Ningxia Iron & Steel, which claims to be the largest in Ningxia. With its steel refining and rolling facilities just commissioned in 2010, the works has crude and finished steel capacities of 1.2m tonnes/year each. Its finished output is mainly rebar, a company source tells Steel Business Briefing.
