NYK launches new iron ore and coal carrier for Tata Steel

Japanese shipping company NYK on 15 September launched a new 180,000-dwt bulk carrier to deliver total 1.4m tonnes/year of iron ore and coal to India’s Tata Steel’s works in the UK and Netherlands. The new carrier named Frontier Lodestar was built by Imabari Shipbuilding’s Koyo dockyard in Hiroshima and will be chartered by Singapore’s Tata NYK Shipping Pte Ltd, a 50:50 venture held by Tata Steel and NYK, which was formed in 2006 to ship bulk cargo to and from India. The new carrier will deliver iron ore and coal from Australia to Immingham and Port Talbot in the UK and IJmuiden in Netherlands for its first sail, but thereafter mainly deliver iron ore from Brazil to these ports.
