Atlas changes strategy on stronger lump output

Atlas Iron said Friday it had reversed its decision to cease production at its Western Australian operations by end-April and will now continue to export through May. The Perth-based miner attributed the change of strategy to a "substantial" reduction in operating costs and the production and sale of the company's first ever lump cargo. Atlas said around 65% of production at its Abydos mine in the Pilbara would be lump ore, which was priced at a premium to its Standard Fines product. It said it expected to produce around 200,000 wet mt/month of lump from Abydos.
