Oman-India FeCr jv to double capacity to 150k t/y

The first ferro-chrome smelter in Oman championed by Oman’s Muscat Overseas Group and India’s Indsil Group will double its capacity to 150,000 tonnes/year by end-2014. The smelter complex to be located in Freezone Sohar will see the construction of two furnaces with total capacity of 75,000 t/y. Another two furnaces will be added in a second phase to double the complex’s capacity to 150,000 t/y, Steel Business Briefing learns from a recent statement from the Omani ministry of information. A converter facility will be added in the second phase to produce 20,000 t/y of low carbon FeCr.
