摘要

Biotopic distribution and moisture preference are important ecological characteristics of species. Accord-ing to them, ground beetles are classified into so-called ecological groups (Arnol’di et al., 1972; Voronin, 1995), although these characteristics of a given species do not always remain the same in different parts of its range. According to Bei-Bienko’s (1966) principle of zonal change of biotopes, which is well known in entomology, polyzonal species occupy dry, sun-warmed open habitats in the northern parts of their ranges but prefer relatively moist and shaded habitats (often in forests) habitats in the southern parts. Preliminary analysis has shown that the principle holds for polyzonal ground beetle species, although this needs further study.
