While VoDSL providers are still trying to build services using standard definition TV (in many case based on MPEG-2 compression), the headend equipment vendors at IBC are already thinking one step ahead. Leading encoding specialists have already shown their readiness for HDTV, with platforms for MPEG-2, MPEG-4 AVC and VC-1, all in both standard and high-definition. At IBC, many of these platforms will be closer to commercial readiness. At IBC, Tandberg Television (IBC Stand 1.461) will show both VC-1 and MPEG-4 AVC HD encoding, the latter on its EN5990 platform. Tandberg has previously worked with silicon vendors Conexant, Broadcom, Texas Instruments and Sigma Designs (also for HD) and set-top box makers ADB (IBC Stand 1.584), Amino Communications (IBC Stand 4.229), i3, Kreatel (IBC Stand 4.151) and Sentivision.
